Borrowing Information

Checkout Limits & Borrowing Periods

A first-time library user may check out up to two items to establish a borrowing record in good standing.  After returning those items, checkout limits are increased. A maximum of 20 items in total may be checked out at a time.  All patrons must present their library card to check out items and use public computers.

14-Day Books (max of 5) – 14 days

All barcoded books (max of 20) – 3 weeks

Uncarded paperback books (max of 40) – No due date

E-books (max of 20) – Up to 3 weeks

DVDs (max of 3) – 1 week

Technology & Other Items

RCPL has a variety of office and audiovisual equipment available for public use. Items in our Library of Things collection may be checked out with your Library card.

Reserving an item is easy.  Either call or visit the Library or reserve your items online through our public access catalog by logging into My Account.  All reserves are placed in the order in which they are received.

RCPL welcomes requests for items we don’t currently have in our collection.  See Suggest an Item for more information.

Overdue Fines, Renewals, & Returns

Overdue and lost item fines are assessed after an unreturned item has reached its due date.  Checkouts and public computer use will be blocked when charges reach $5.00 or greater.

Books, Audiobooks – $0.10 per day late

DVDs – $0.50 per day late

Let us help you avoid overdue fines by renewing your items in person or over the phone.  Items can be renewed twice unless another patron is on reserve for that item. 14-day books cannot be renewed.

The Library’s book drop is open 24/7 to accept returns.
