New Website Project Refocuses Library Brand

Written by

The new website and logo are part of our effort to refocus the brand of the Russell County Public Library. Our rebranding identifies the library as a place of "content," without limitations of format or materials. Our slogan, "Discover What Speaks to You," defines the very essence of our library's purpose — a place to discover!

"A successful logo seeks to visually identify an organization and connect with its context and mission. A good logo should be unique, it should be memorable, and it should be meaningful," said William Cox of KSD: Kinetic Strategic Design, the Somerset firm that worked with the library staff on the rebranding project. "The quotation marks that form the "ss" in Russell provide a visual cue to the content provided by the Russell County library, while giving a definitive placement in the heart of Russell County. Two versions of the logo were created for flexibility in use."

The brand development extends beyond the logo to the look and feel of the new website. Visually bright and airy, the new site uses a clean and simple user interface and features photography of local patrons who utilize and love the Russell County Library. Unlike the old website, when library patrons go to the site on a desktop computer, a smartphone or a tablet device, the content will display and respond appropriately.

A new Kentucky license plate gives drivers the opportunity to show their support for libraries. The Kentucky Library Association (KLA) worked with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to make the license plate available.
