@ Your Library – October

It’s nearly time for the semi-annual book sale hosted by the Friends of the Russell County Public Library, and this is your official invitation to come to both library locations Monday, October 17 through Wednesday, October 19 to find some unbeatable book buys.

This is a prime opportunity to find books of all kinds for super cheap prices (and they’re even cheaper if you are or become a member of the Friends of the Library group).

The Friends of the Russell County Public Library is a charitable organization that works to support and promote your local public library. The spring and fall book sales are just two of several efforts coordinated by the group each year. To learn more about the Friends of the RCPL, visit www.russellcountylibrary.com/friends or stop by and pick up a brochure.

The money brought in through the book sale goes to support your local library in a variety of ways and helps us to purchase new books and provide a variety of services for library patrons.

The semi-annual book sale features non-fiction, biography, fiction and children’s books as well as DVDs and VHS tapes for sale.

Where do these items come from? A variety of sources.

Throughout the year, staff members carefully evaluate items in the library to make sure the collection remains up to date, in good condition and relevant to our patrons. When items are removed from our collection, they are placed in the book sale and made available for purchase. This aids the library in purchasing newer, more relevant books to take their place.

Additionally, items for sale sometimes come from generous donations made to the library from members of the public. When someone donates a book, DVD, or other medium used at the library, our staff checks to see if it is something we already have in our collection. If we already have the item, we will check its condition and use the book that is in the best shape on our shelves, making it available to check out. The other item then goes into the sale.

The library greatly appreciates the many donations we receive throughout the year from generous readers across our community.  We welcome donations anytime of the year, but especially prior to one of the semi-annual book sale dates. Donations of clean, gently used items may be made during business hours. We are open at the main library in Jamestown Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. until noon. The branch location in Russell Springs is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. We greatly appreciate these donations, especially of books with relatively new copyright dates.

Donations are tax deductible and one of our friendly staff members will gladly provide a receipt for the donation.
